You Can Grow These 5 Philodendron Varieties Almost Anywhere

by Destin Lowery 02/04/2024

The philodendron genus includes many popular houseplants. With the wide variety of sizes, shapes and growth patterns comes a variety of care needs. Luckily, there are plenty of philodendrons that are easy to grow indoors in any climate. Here are some of the easiest philodendrons to grow:

Heartleaf Philodendron

Heartleaf philodendrons are a favorite of plant lovers all over the world. As their name suggests, these plants have vines with heart-shaped leaves and grow trailing from hanging pots or climbing a trellis. This type of philodendron is incredibly low-maintenance and comes in several beautiful varieties including the neon "lemon lime" and velvety soft "micans."

Xanadu Philodendron

The xanadu philodendron is a popular choice for an upright plant. This variety has dramatic split leaves and grows in dense clumps of stems that can reach up to 4 feet tall. A xanadu philodendron only needs filtered sunlight and occasional watering to thrive, making it easy to grow anywhere.

Spadeleaf Philodendron

The spadeleaf philodendron is a versatile plant you can grow upright on a trellis or allow to spread out horizontally. It has large, glossy spade-shaped leaves and a darker color earning it the additional common name "burgundy philodendron." This philodendron is easy-going about its light requirements, only needing medium or dappled sunlight to flourish.

Elephant Ear Philodendron

While elephant ear plants can be tricky to grow indoors, the elephant ear philodendron is easy to please. As long as you allow it to dry out between watering days, it will grow well in a room with indirect bright light and very little maintenance. In fact, because of its hardy nature and enormous foliage, your only issue might be running out of space as it grows.

Pink Princess Philodendron

The pink princess philodendron is extremely popular among houseplant collectors for its signature pink and green variegation. A smaller philodendron, this colorful plant will grow well in partial shade and can be trained to climb up a trellis or stake. Because the pink variegation is the result of mutation, these philodendrons are more difficult to find--and tend to be expensive even in small sizes. Luckily, like these other philodendrons, they are easy-growers and make a beautiful addition to any indoor jungle.
